Frequently Asked

Questions,
answered plainly.

No jargon, no pressure, and no promises about outcomes. If your question is not here, write to us.

Is NVBA part of the government or the VA?

No. NVBA is an independent veterans membership association. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any other federal agency.

Does NVBA file or represent disability claims?

No. NVBA does not prepare, file, or represent disability claims. NVBA focuses on education, organization, and member resources. If you need representation, work with a VA-accredited representative, an accredited veterans service organization, or an accredited attorney or agent.

Will NVBA ever take a percentage of my benefits?

No. NVBA is a membership-supported organization. It does not take a percentage of compensation, back pay, or any other benefit, and it does not charge contingency fees.

Is membership open yet?

Not yet. You can join the interest list to be contacted when membership opens. The Benefits Library, FAQs, and state benefit pages on this site are free and open to everyone in the meantime.

What is a 501(c)(19) organization?

Section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code describes a category of veterans membership organizations. NVBA is being organized under that section. NVBA does not claim any recognition or determination it has not received.

What does the member platform actually do?

It is designed to bring a veteran's service history, family information, benefit status, and documents into one profile, then show which programs relate to that profile. Every dashboard image on this site is an illustrative preview, not a live account.

Why do state benefits matter so much?

State programs — property tax relief, tuition waivers, license fee waivers, state veterans homes — are tied to where you live. Moving can add or remove benefits even when nothing about your federal status changes.

Where do I get a replacement DD-214?

Replacement service records are requested through the National Archives' National Personnel Records Center. Requests can take time, which is why keeping your own organized copy matters.

Can family members and survivors use NVBA?

Yes. A significant share of veterans benefits reach spouses, children, dependents, and survivors, and NVBA's resources are written to cover those programs.

How does NVBA handle my information?

Information you share through this site is used only to contact you about NVBA membership. NVBA does not sell member or interest-list information. See the Privacy page for details.
